It is OAA testing week, and Eagle Elementary is pumped up and ready to show what they know! Last week was OAA Spirit Week, and all of our students and staff joined in the fun to have sweet dreams about the OAA (pajamas), show OAA All Stars spirit (sportswear), get wild about the OAA (wacky outfits), get dressed in your best for the OAA test, and to rock out the OAA like a rock star! Congratulations to Jacob H. and Jasmine T. for working hard with the local YMCA on cleaning up the community as part of Earth Day celebrations! The Secondary Campus will attend the Mud Hens Baseball game with the 5th grade students at the elementary campus on May 16th! The Teen Leadership Club at EAS begins Monday May 23rd! EAS students will work hard and have fun during OAA Test Prep on Saturday May 28th from 9:00-12:00. EAS is hosting the first annual college fair on May 17th from 1:00-2:43! Many institutions will be attending the event to provide students with information on planning for higher education. EAS is hosting Transition Day on May 10th! Fifth grade students from the elementary campus will be visiting the secondary campus to meet the staff and learn what to expect at the secondary campus. OAA Spirit Week is here at Eagle Elementary, April 23-27! Monday: Have sweet dreams about the OAA and wear your pajamas today! Tuesday: OAA All Stars--wear your favorite sports team's shirts, jerseys, hats. Wednesday: We are wild about the OAA--wear your wildest and wackiest outfit! Thursday: Get dressed in your best for the OAA test--wear your nicest outfit. Friday: Rock out the OAA--dress like a rock star today! Please note that if students choose not to participate by dressing up for each spirit day, they MUST wear their school uniform, including on Friday. There are NO dress down days this week. In addition, there will be a Pep Rally for grades 3-5 on Monday, April 30 at 1:45. Eagle Staff will perform and cheer students on to success on their tests! All students who demonstrate excellent effort on their OAA tests will also be invited to a Staff vs. Students basketball game on Friday, May 4 at 1:30. Eagle Elementary and Secondary competed against other Leona schools at the Midwest Spelling Bee at Cesar Chavez Academy in Detroit. Two Eagle students placed in the top 10, with Selena (grade 8) in 5th place and Destiny (grade 6) in 7th place. Eagle Secondary placed 2nd overall as a team. Congratulations, Team Eagle Academy! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Eagle Elementary! Join us for some luau fun and find the perfect books for summer reading. The Book Fair will be open to students and families on Tuesday, May 15 through Friday, May 18 during school hours. There will be a Family Fun Night at the Book Fair on Thursday, May 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you are unable to attend the Book Fair at school, you can visit our Online Fair and shop from home anytime between May 11 and May 21! All proceeds from the Book Fair are used to expand Eagle Elementary's school library. Don't miss it! Congratulations to our Students of the Month for April! Click here for more photos from our 3rd quarter Awards Assemblies. Eagle Elementary will present 3rd quarter awards to students on Thursday, April 5. All families are welcome to attend. The awards assembly for grades K-2 will begin at 8:30 in the gym. The awards assembly for grades 3-5 will begin at 9:30 in the gym. Awards will include honor roll, academic improvement, attendance, and other special achievements. Spring parties will take place in the classrooms beginning at 1:00 on Thursday. Please contact your child's teacher for more information. Family Fun Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Kindergarten Round-Up, and the Rummage Sale are all coming up. Mark your calendars! Family Fun Night has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 20, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. This will be a Literacy Night, with celebrity readers and free books to all students who attend. Don't miss it! Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Friday, March 30. There will be no school on that day. Please contact your child's teacher to schedule a conference. Kindergarten Round-Up will also be held on Friday, March 30. All incoming kindergarteners for the 2012-2013 school year are invited to visit with their families. There will be activities and free kindergarten readiness packs for the kids, and parents can complete enrollment packets, talk to staff, and tour the building. Kindergarten Round-Up will be from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. and will take place in the cafeteria. There will be a Rummage Sale in the gym on Saturday, March 31, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. All proceeds benefit the students in grade 4, who will be attending camp in the fall as 5th graders. Ricki in grade 5 represented Eagle Elementary and Destiny in grade 6 represented Eagle Secondary at the 2012 Blade Northwest Ohio Spelling Bee Championship last night. Ricki correctly spelled "harmonica" in the first round and misspelled "credentials" in the second round. Destiny misspelled "cauliflower" in the first round.
